ABSTRACT:

In the third of my architectural excursions in Liverpool
I walk the North Central dockland area through
Everton and Vauxhall, discussing Listed buildings and
other points of interest along the way.
The dock area is atmospheric but derelict but showing signs
of restrained revival. The final moments, as usual, are
relieved by prayer and alcohol:- this is a Jim Warren
journey of the spirit.

ABSTRACT:

A discursive description of Liverpool’s transfluvial
sister town: Its history, its geology, and its shipbuilding,
narrowing the focus to its inceptive nucleus,
Birkenhead Priory.
At the Priory I retire to pray in the Scriptorium.
The curator of its Merchant Naval Museum
explains much of the history and exhibits,
but he is, despite his great expertise,
less instructive than some electrical worshipers
who accost me.
