Optimal JPEG Sizing for the Net is often a difficult issue.
With regard to colour photographs, the challenge is to find an optimal combination of pixel density and signal compression which will yield a stable and rapidly-downloadable image file, whilst preserving satisfactory resolution and aesthetic values in the presented picture
The stability issue is often overlooked: Excessively large ( say more than 60KB ) JPEG files are often "chewed-up" by servers after a few viewing episodes
Nine comparable specimens of the head of the Venus de Milo are viewed for quality of reproduction
The scanned picture was taken in May 1992 using a Nikon 28-80 zoom compact equipped with flash and represents some 4.6% of the original 35-mm bromide frame
